Project Scope

Quick Overview

The Business Support project was designed to:

  • Provide information, knowledge, support, resources, and tools to residents and investors who operate or want to start a business in Lac du Bonnet.

  • Work with the business community, aspiring entrepreneurs, and potential investors to provide tools, training, and resources for success.

  • Develop programs and services for the Lac du Bonnet business community to support the efforts of the community’s businesses and the overall goal of this project, to support the local business community.

A Year in Review

2021 was another challenging year for everyone as the pandemic continued. While changes and uncertainty lingered, the business community could better manage the changes in 2021 after dealing with the pandemic for a year. The challenges faced in 2020 remained, and the Lac du Bonnet business community worked diligently to support the needs of the residents through uncertain times.

Here are some of the support services the Lac du Bonnet CDC provided the business community during the year:

  • Continued to field questions about pandemic restrictions and changes and connect the business community to available resources.
  • Helped business and non-profit organizations navigate and apply for grants and funding sources.
  • Launched the Website Development Program to help small businesses get online, which became increasingly important for businesses through the pandemic.
  • Provided Website Development Training and support to four local businesses interested in developing their website in-house. Connected several other businesses with website developers who could provide service for more extensive website builds.
  • Helped create job descriptions and listed and promoted available jobs in the community.
  • Launched Lac du Bonnet on the Driftscape App to stay up-to-date with tourism marketing changes caused by the pandemic. The Driftscape App provides another touch-point for those looking for tourism assets and businesses in Lac du Bonnet.
  • Worked with the non-profit community to develop VolunteerLdB to showcase volunteer opportunities in the community.
  • Began working with the outdoor event organizers (14 non-profits and businesses) in Lac du Bonnet to examine the feasibility of developing an Event Park that would encourage economic growth and future business development opportunities for the community.
  • Began planning the Great Outdoors Expo and Market, a trade show to promote local businesses serving the tourism industry and artisans.
  • Created the Holiday Gift Guide Campaign to promote local businesses and encourage shop local spending during the holidays.
  • Met with three individuals interested in starting a business in the community to provide resource information, statistics, and support for their business planning stage of development.
  • Provided photography and video services to three local businesses that were lacking quality content to complete their marketing and promotions. The assets were created are being used by the business owners and the Lac du Bonnet CDC for marketing and promotions of the businesses and community.

A Year in Review

2020 was difficult for everyone, as the pandemic brought new restrictions and uncertainty to business communities everywhere. Businesses were forced to close, change their operations, reduce staff, face staff shortages, deal with supply chain interruptions, monitor and change with regulations that frequently changed, and so much more.

Here are some of the support services the Lac du Bonnet CDC provided the business community during the year:

  • Fielding questions about pandemic restriction changes and connecting the business community to available resources.
  • Help business and non-profit organizations navigate and apply for grants and funding sources.
  • Helped create job descriptions and listed and promoted available jobs in the community.
  • Conducted a business survey to determine how the Lac du Bonnet CDC could provide support during the pandemic.
  • Worked with 12 businesses and non-profit organizations to host Mini-Fest: A Community Celebration to safely bring the community together for a sample of many events cancelled during the pandemic.
  • Updated the MyLdB Tourism website to showcase Lac du Bonnet’s tourism assets as more and more people visited rural communities during the pandemic. The website houses information about tourism assets and businesses in Lac du Bonnet.
  • Launched the Lac du Bonnet Business Directory, increasing our business community’s online presence and creating another way for our businesses to be found.
  • Provided marketing support and training to several local businesses that needed to diversify their marketing efforts during the pandemic.
  • Provide business model change support to two local businesses that had to change how they operated due to the pandemic.
  • Worked with a non-profit organization to develop economic impact statistics, gather letters of support, and prepare for Municiapl presentations for a project it is developing.

Project Start

Since January 2020, the Lac du Bonnet CDC has been proudly serving the business community by working with individual business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs and developing tools and resources to assist the business community in various ways.

The service deliverables will vary from client to client but include support services for items such as:

  • Creating strategic, business, marketing, and succession plans.
  • Providing relevant information, knowledge, and connections to industry-specific partners.
  • Providing services and training that fill the gaps or prevent a business from moving forward, growing, or developing.
  • Partnering with other community service organizations, such as Community Futures and Eastman Tourism, for further support systems for our business community.
  • Assisting with grant applications and proposal writing.
  • Connecting with local businesses to provide mentoring and sounding board support for new ideas, products, services, business models and more.

Collectively, the Lac du Bonnet Community Development Board Members have significant training and experience in the below-mentioned areas and are happy to provide these services to the business and non-profit community of Lac du Bonnet:
